    A friend encounters error "grub rescue"


    A friend tries to install a Linux OS but an error appears in boot
    "error: no such device: ffb3f777-9c57-45fb-a351-e02e84936f1b. grub rescue"
    what could be the problem?

    Can you please provide more details? What was the machine, specs and what linux flavor were you trying to install. And also was it installed using a Live CD?

    Yes, please provide more info.

    The ffb3f777-9c57-45fb-a351-e02e84936f1b string appears to be a UUID. My guess is that the bootloader (GRUB) for whatever reason has been configured with the wrong identifier for your friends root partition.

    He said wubi installer and in a laptop. Sorry, I don't know yet the specs and if it is a live cd or usb.
