ubuntu install on toshiba satellite notebook
hey guys,me jus got myself a brand new toshiba laptop,
thing is some time bk i had installed a dual boot system of windows 7 and ubuntu ver 10.10 onto my viao.
me wants 2 do da same thing now on da toshiba, problem is , when i inserted da cd i had used to install ubuntu on my vaio, things didnt go as smooth as was intended.
the main screen did come up .. gv me a couple of option like jus run ubuntu // install ubuntu ...etc..etc..
thing is wen i selected install ubuntu, the screen went blank ... then after some time bios screen appeared... black scrren with white letter .
ill post a pic of same soon ..
i dunno what went wrong.. da cd worked perfect on vaio ..
btw here r da noteboo kspecs if it means anythin ..
toshiba satellite c650d ... x86 based pc. .... AMD athlon dual core .......BIOS : INsydeH2O ver 1.4 .... smbios ver 2.6 ..... 32 bit windows vista operating system
desperately awaiting some help ..

It's probably a video card issue. You can install Ubuntu with an alternate installer in text mode, which will allow you to install and then you can try to get the video problem sorted out afterwards.

oh good. ill try this alternative install u told me bout .. im gonna try it right now, will let u know what exactly happened

i hv a question . this is my first laptop with AMD athlon processor ..
the vaio had intel centrino duo processor..
both however hv a 32 bit operating system ...
on the alternative installation software page .. i saw sn ubuntu software ... an AMD64 version and an i386 version..
do i download the amd64version ?? or the i386 version ???

thnkx guys, as much as i respect the help u guys hv given me .. i am completely at a loss as to operational aspects of linus nd the various codes nd commands .. i jus started using linux in nov 20-10 .. that too got a pal to help me out .. .. a guide for dummies wud be better i think ..
@Tbob : no the screenshot is not from the text installer ... it pops out everytime i try to boot from the ubuntu cd //// first i get a purple screen .. at bottom is da figure of a man or something .. nd before ubuntu starts screen goes blank nd the screenshot appears .. i cant mk head or tails of what it means or signifies ..
the toshiba has an AMD athlon II P320 dualcore processor .. i dont know if it can handle amd64 software //
