    Last I heard all version 3.231 and above Sony has disabled the other software option on the PS3. so you might have to downgrade to something before 3.21 in order to install Linux on PS3.

    If you are still going ahead with linux on a PS3 then you will need a PPC version of linux to install.

    there are plenty of sites on the interweb to explain how to install and setup the software.
