Suse Linux 9.2 / Windows XP
Hi,
I am a beginner!
I have installed Windows XP on my PC and on the same drive Suse Linux 9.2.
The installation of both was fine. But my problem is now that in the bootloader grub i can choose between:
Linux 9.2
Windows
Linux 9.2 Failsafe
and when i use Windows, a black screen appears and after some seconds i am back in the grubs bootloader.
Linux 9.2 and Linux 9.2 Failsafe works fine!
After first fault i tried it once more! I used fdisk to delete the partitions, and formated the complete drive (27GB -> Fat32). On the clean drive i installed Windows XP. I tried it, and it works fine. Then i installed Linux 9.2 and the problem appears. I search under linux, if a deleted the Windows XP partition! But it is existing! C:\Windows and C:\Program Files exists!
So it think there is only a problem in the bootloader!
Pleas help me!
I have read many posts concerning such problems and i found the info, that the grub in Suse Linux 9.1 has a bug and can be updated via suse help:
http://portal.suse.com/sdb/de/2004/0...booting91.html
But this is 9.1 is this also needed for 9.2 ????
Thanks for your help!
greetings from austria!

I do not use SuSE so I can not say that it is a problem. However, you can try lilo and see if that works. Also you can change were to mount the ldr and mount it to the /(root). After the install make a floppy with this command
then add to the boot.ini file c:\bootsect.lnx="Linux"Code:dd if=/dev/hda2 of=bootsect.lnx bs=512 count=1
please note that i do not know how the drive is set up so you might need to change hda2. I just assume it is.
Oh, sorry and dont forget to add bootsect.lnx to the root in windows.

Re: Suse Linux 9.2 / Windows XP
I'm not sure what you're asking here. Are you unable to boot into either Windows XP or Linux, or are you having trouble reading your XP data from Linux?

Hi,
The Linux part is working very well! I can also read the information of the XP Partition out of the running linux! Only, not only this is a big problem for me, Windows Xp Partition is not booting!
I tried now the Setting of the LBA in the Bios for the drive. -> No Success
I tried the patch for the Linux 9.1 . -> No driver found on the media
I tried to use lilo instead of grub. -> When i start Windows a black screen
appears with Info:"Load Windows" with cursor on the nextline and there it stops!!
So at the moment i have no idea what i can do!
