    How do I make partition?

    I want to put ubuntu on a 500gb portable hard drive but I also want to be able to put Linux programs on there also. but I have no idea hoe to Partition it. I would need a free program to do it. also what the hell is a virtual machine??

    Hello and welcome to the forums!

    Gparted is about as good as any app for partitioning chores. I'd recommend running it from a liveCD like Parted Magic.
