You could try PCLinuxOS which is based on Mandriva and is usually in the top 10 at distrowatch and has good support/forums.
Same for Opensuse although you will probably need at least 1GB RAM.

Sport,
(1) You could try TinyCore Linux.
I have been running it OK working on M$ XP partition daily.
(2) Puppy Linux 4.3 was a custom core.
Have been using Puppy 5.25 workng on M$ XP partition daily.
(3) I have used Ubuntu on NTFS files for the last year.
Not a single error. Use it daily.
In this mix, I have to play with differing permission setups,
but can always read/write to the NTFS partition.
good luck.

I have now used this computer with M$ Windows a long time and just decided that I can't stand the M$ lag. And I now tried a brand new Ubuntu cd, I pressed"Install Ubuntu"( 11.10, was it Ocelot?, i don't remember the name) and it hanged. The disc has been used to do one successful install on a friend's computer. Does Mandriva have something like the "Ubuntu Software Center" where you can download apps?
EDIT: Just tried Fedora, udevd error while at last part of livecd loading. I am thinking that this may havesomething to do with GNOME.Last edited by sportcrazy60; 10-29-2011 at 04:17 PM.
