    Problem booting Win7/Ubuntu/Fedora on GPT disk

    Hey all,
    I am having a problem booting fedora, ubuntu, and windows 7 all together with grub2.

    Windows was installed first and worked fine on the GPT drive. Then fedora was installed, then ubuntu because grub 2 is needed to load from a GPT disk.

    Once the linux OSs were installed, they both load fine, but grub2 didn't see windows, so I manually added this to grub.cfg (using the scripts) for a new windows entry:

    insmod part_gpt
    insmod ntfs
    set root='(/dev/sda,gpt3)'

    I get the error 'no such disk', but gpt3 is where windows bootloader is, I can see that in ubuntu.

    Any ideas why this isn't working?

    Have you tried adding "chainloader +1" to the end of your windows menuentry? What happens when you do?

    yes, still says the same error.

    Also tried:

    menuentry "Windows x86_64 UEFI-GPT" {
    search --file --no-floppy --set=root /efi/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi
    chainloader (${root})/efi/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi
    }

    That just does nothing when I click it.

    INTERESTING THING:
    I can still boot windows by going into the BIOS boot menu when the computer starts up. I see 'Windows Boot Manager'; if I click that it goes straight to booting up windows. Why can't Grub2 see that, or how do I point it at the right place?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    I'm not familiar with GPT but the entries are very different from the standard. I expect you would need something in the file below pointing it to sda3, the only windows partition with windows boot files. I've never seen a chainloader entry similar to yours but am not that familiar with GPT.

    /efi/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi
    What happens when you use the uuid for sda3 in the --set root= line?

    Your bootinfo script output isn't complete. What's in the grub.cfg file.

    What happens when you use the uuid for sda3 in the --set root= line?

    Your bootinfo script output isn't complete. What's in the grub.cfg file.
    it says no such device...?

    The beginning of your bootinfo script indicates that Grub2 is installed to the mbr and is looking for the core.img file and it is NOT found. It appears to be looking on sda4 yet Grub files are on sda10.

    What are you able to boot now?

    I can boot ubuntu and fedora through grub2. I can't boot windows thru grub, but I can boot windows thru my bios.

    With the entry below, you get no such device?

    menuentry 'Windows 7' {
    insmod part_gpt
    insmod ntfs
    set root='(/dev/sda,gpt3)'
    search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root=26B858B7B8588769
    chainloader +1
    }

    I'm surprised you can boot anything based on the info in the bootiinfo script? Don't really feel I can help as I'm not familiar with GPT/EFI and don't use Grub2 much.

    i think the '=' after root is wrong syntax, with it it says bad command... , without it it tries to boot then says something like 'invalid EFI path'
