Dell 9 Mini - now on distro 3 - cannot get any installed

My Dell Mini 9 is driving me nuts.
I wanted to try and get Vector Linux running on it as it worked brilliantly on a laptop before.
I boot from USB and get the live cd version running fine (i tried unetbootin for the install version and it won't create a bootable image). When i come to install i get part way (usually about 30%) before the screen goes black and just have a cursor.

Now compared to the other distros that is good going:

Ubuntu - will run on laptop won't boot on dell mini
Mint - will run on laptop - won't boot on dell mini

as Vector is the preferred choice and it gets further than any of the others i'd like to try and persist with this. Equally though i'd happily try another (downloading pc linux now as this has been in the past one of the few distros to seamlessly install and just work)

    any suggestions most welcome!
    thanks
    Julian

Could you post exact error message here? Have you tried same USB on any other machine?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Hi - if i got any errors it would no doubt help. linux mint didn't progress at all - just a blank screen
ubuntu got to the loading screen then a screen that looked like clouds - i guess the desktop - no icons present though and essentially just locks up.

Vector will run from live install but it won't successfully install.

    thanks

It looks like Graphics Card problem only. Installer are not configuring Graphics Card correctly. Which Graphics Card do you have? Have you tried Text Mode installation?

no i haven't tried that. doesn't seem to be an option with Vector it has only one option "Run Linux"
Dell mini 9 has some integrated graphics affair. strangely puppy linux works fine with that aspect

    cheers

(i tried pc linux and that also fails - just hangs on the main screen)
i think you are right about graphics - seems odd ubuntu doesn't work as this was installed on many of these dell minis.

You don't have to install Vector to execute that command. Just boot up from any LiveUSB/CD. Try Puppy Linux.
