Can you please post the output of these two commands (run as root)
Code:fdisk -l dmesg | grep sd
You must always face the curtain with a bow.

Please find the output,
1) fdisk -l
2) dmesg | grep sdCode:Disk /dev/sda: 4007 MB, 4007657472 bytes 16 heads, 32 sectors/track, 15288 cylinders Units = cylinders of 512 * 512 = 262144 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0xa9cb7a74 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 16 15288 3909696 b W95 FAT32 Disk /dev/mapper/live-rw: 4294 MB, 4294967296 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 522 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x00000000 Disk /dev/mapper/live-osimg-min: 4294 MB, 4294967296 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 522 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x00000000

Hmm, can you tell which chipset, (potentially) raidcontroller and discs (sata, sas, etc) you are using?
Also, what is the output of these:
Code:lspci dmidecode
You must always face the curtain with a bow.

An older system, but should work.
lspci showed, that you do not have a hardware raid controller, so this is out of the way.
This is the closest match I could find
ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS P5KPL-AM
It has 4 sata 3Gb/s and 1 IDE port.
Now I guess you connected one or more sata discs?
Are they visible in POST, while the BIOS boots?
You might want to check, if the sata ports are enabled in bios.
Also, check the sata mode: legacy (ide), ahci or raid.
I prefer ahci, and this should work with ScientificLinux.
Which version of SL are you using? 6.3 is the newest one.
And this usb boot stick: It is booting SL, right? You must always face the curtain with a bow.

Your match is the exact mother board that i have. How to figure out the below
When i boot it lists down SATA disks. I am using SL 6.3, yes this USB boots SL.Code:Now I guess you connected one or more sata discs? Are they visible in POST, while the BIOS boots?

Have you tried to toggle SATA Mode in BIOS?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Do they get automatically mounted by Scientific, if so try manually un-mounting them. If Scientific is a Live environment, you should be able to do this through the file manager.
