    how to intall Windows from DVD under GRUB ( no OS)


    Dear Forum Users,

    I have PC: Dell OptiPlex 745.
    After power up I am getting GRUB prompt ( no any OS).

    Also I have the original Windows XP installation DVD.
    What steps shell I do to install Windows XP on that PC?

    Could someone help me please with the steps I need to do?

    Go into your bios at boot up and set it to boot from dvd 1st, then put your install disk in the dvd player and reboot. You should be presented with the windows install screen.

    What masontx said, with an important caveat - Windows likes to "own" the system. Install Windows first, and THEN install linux w/ grub. You will then be able to boot both, otherwise you will likely need to reinstall grub and the grub boot-loader from CD/DVD/USB drive, assuming that the Windows installation doesn't wipe out your Linux partitions...
