Slack ISO and slack current
I want to make a bootable CD with the current software tree of slackware

I have already downloaded the 8.1 ISO, a long long time ago
Can I just copy the contents of that CD (burned 8.1 ISO) to a directory on my hard disk, and then download (overwriting my current slackware directory) the whole slackware directory onto my hard disk, and then burn it all to CD. Resulting in a bootable slackware current CD?

That wouldn't become bootable, unless you explicitly specify so. If you burn the ISO file directly, it would make it bootable, but not by just burning the files as they are. For that you will have to specify the file to boot to boot from. Since I don't know what program you will be using to burn the CD, I cannot tell you how to do that, though.
