    laptop not booting from usb?


    i am trying to boot from usb using pen drive linux and it will not boot from usb. i went into the bios and it didn't show the option to boot from usb. i am trying to boot ubuntu version 14-04 and me laptop is a hpg71

    Check under the heading "Boot Order" in the BIOS. I was working on a similar one today and that's where you could "elevate" booting from USB to the top which overrides the internal hard drive.

    Put the USB selection at the top of the list. If your bootable USB stick is made correctly - it should boot from it...

    ok but there are multiple ones for usb this is what is says

    usb diskette on key/usb hard drive
    notebook hard drive
    internal cd/dvd rom drive
    usb floppy
    network adapter
    usb cd/dvd rom drive

    which one is the one that i should use?

    If you have an option for 'legacy', then you might want to try that one. My new one has something called UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface), and my USB won't boot in that mode either...
