I haven't tried this, but I'm pretty sure the partition must not be mounted for this, which would make it tricky if you don't have a live CD to work from. If you have space, you could create a swap file, change /etc/fstab and reboot with the old partition unmounted so you can change it. Some risk there if your not careful. Maybe the best bet is to create a second swap partition. Good information here. It says you can have up to 16 swap areas and up to 2Gb swap.
