Frequency Help

I just installed mandrake 8.2 and before I even get to the desktop My monitor shuts down saying frequency out of range. Any way to fix this? I am like very new to linux but I want to really learn it, so any help would be greatly appreciated

Did you choose your own monitor model when you installed mandrake?
