gnome installation instruction req.

hello guyz .. well i downlaoded i think the correct file namely

gnome-desktop-2.8.3.tar.gz round about 2.1 mb and i extract it .. it contains many folders and files .. but i m not geting how to install it plz help me thnx

not done it this way myself, but see if, in the first folder that the extraction produces, there are files called INSTALL and/or README.
If there are, then read them (a quick "cat filename | more" will do the job).

If not, then it may follow the usual install procedure of firts doing a "./configure" followed by a "make" followed (as root user) by a "make install".

But like I say, see if there are any readme style files firts.
