gnome installation instruction req.
hello guyz .. well i downlaoded i think the correct file namely
gnome-desktop-2.8.3.tar.gz round about 2.1 mb and i extract it .. it contains many folders and files .. but i m not geting how to install it plz help me thnx:: i dont know even a single word of linux ::

not done it this way myself, but see if, in the first folder that the extraction produces, there are files called INSTALL and/or README.
If there are, then read them (a quick "cat filename | more" will do the job).
If not, then it may follow the usual install procedure of firts doing a "./configure" followed by a "make" followed (as root user) by a "make install".
But like I say, see if there are any readme style files firts.
