Installing both Linux and Windows
OKej! I wanna install Windows on my Pc too. THe problem is that i already installed Linux (mandrake 10.1) and I dont want to delete it ,cause I ve set it up nicely and everything is working fine. THere is no chance Im deleting it, so forget this option. I heared that there is a possibility to install Windows Xp after you have installed Linux ,but its much more complicated..so I ve heared.
Can someone help me doing it. Are there any good "how to's" on the net.
THanks!

Do you have an extra partition setup ready for Widows to go into.
If you don't, Windows will delete Linux.
If you do, you can install to that partition.
After installing Windows to the extra partiton you will need to reinstall your bootloader. Nerderello has a great tutorial here.

budman7 is on target. Windows wants to be on the first partition. If you have Linux where Windows wants to go:
Most of your nice setup work is in your /home/blackswan directory, mostly in hidden files. You will see all of your hidden files if you get a terminal console and do : ls -a to 'list' 'all' files. The ones that start with a ' . ' are hidden and generally contain some sort of configuration information. If you copy these to a floppy, re-install your system and then copy the hidden home files to your new home directory, overwriting any that are there, you will restore much of your nice set up. Nobody installs only once./IMHO

Hi !!!
create a new partition for windows... make it active using fdisk command....
install windows........ re-install boot loader ( GRUB )
check this link .....
.... casper ....It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

There is a nice workaround for this problem.
Buy another hard drive. Remove the existing hard
drive and install the new one. Install windows. Install
the linux hard drive as slave. You will then need to
boot the installation disk or a linux rescue disk
and reinstall the bootloader onto the primary
master hard drive. You may need to manually
edit the GRUB or LILO configuration file to set
up for dual boot. Personally, I would just get a
second computer for Windows and keep it
in the closet.
