So would it be true to say it's a nice gui interface for iptables? If so are the rules clearly defined for the gui type user ( I mean new or semi-new) ?

Its not just a UI for iptables, You can setup port fowarding, Configure your modem/connection, It displays traffic graphs, You can setup a proxy, You can use it to activate Snort, View you firewall and Snort logs ect.. And yes the rules are easy to setup most users wont need to change them. Just block everything that hasnt been requested from the Green zone(Your internal network).
