Need to find a distro
I have a 1998 Hewlett Packard Laptop. Meaning I don't have alot of memory. I need to find the most basic linux disro I can. Is there anybody there who can tell me where to go to download a basic linux. Thank you

Have u tried Knoppix on it? If u havent, try it, and if it runs alright, Debian or any debian derivatives should run comfortably.
Also, Gentoo is supposed to run well on low resources.

Try Damn small Linux, or Feather or a bunch of others.
Go to www.distrowatch.com to look for distros, the search function is at the bottom of the page.
You can search for Live distros(they run off of the cd, no installation required.
Or search for small tiny distros.

P.S. Don't bother with Gentoo, unless you don't need the laptop for a few days while it installs.How to know if you are a geek.

You dont need a pocket protector or thick glasses to be a geek.

I read somewhere vector linux ran well on old machines. I also have an old laptop from the late 90's I want to try this on. I just have not made time to do it.

my laptop is similar to yours, and i run damn small linux on it. works great, very fast.
