ok, im going thru the instructions step by step.

first of all, the instructions told me to type this shell command:

QUOTE
cvs -dserver:anonymous@cvs.gift.sf.net:/cvsroot/gift login[/quote]


I did that, and it asked me for a password, according to the instructions, I press enter because rthere is no password. OK, I did that.

now i get this message:

QUOTE
cvs [login aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if any)[/quote]

i thought maybe it was supposed to look like that, so i went ahead to the next step, which was t type in this:

QUOTE
cvs -z3 -dserver:anonymous@cvs.gift.sf.net:/cvsroot/gift co giFT[/quote]

but i got this error message:

QUOTE
cvs checkout: warning: failed to open /home/torrey/.cvspass for reading: No such file or directory
cvs [checkout aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if any)[/quote]


can somebody help me? this is very perplexing. I had recently tried to install gtk-gnutella which I have done befoe, but it doesnt seem to want to work either. grr. also, I saw that the cocument told me to install CVS if i ont already have it. I installed mandrake 9.1 with all the packages there were to choose from...

does mandrake install CVS by default?
