    Login as root, instead of Jody.
    You will get a # instead of a $
    Then do "xorgconfig"
    You will be asked for info about your monitor, video card, mouse and keyboard.
    Just select the appropriate responses from the menus.
    Then do "startx" after you have finished with this menu.

    If you install GDM or KDM in addition, you won't have to type "startx" to get into the graphical enviroment. You will be welcomed by a graphical login-screen instead. But, offcourse, this is a matter of personal preferrence, I often prefer to login in CUI.
