problems powering off
I have studied the manual and the log off options they are showing are totally different than what I am seeing. I am using Red Hat 8.0 KDE desktop.
When I goto main menu, log off....the only option that I get is to log off. Once I choose this, I am back to a login screen with the only option being to log back on.
I just set up a duel boot machine with RH8 and XP home. I am new to linux, and trying to figure this out. I have already been told that I simply choose to log out and then after I log off I will be presented with the option to power off after I return to the login screen....this is not happening. I only get the option to login.

with the new redhat 8.0 look and feel once you logout you click
system then reboot/shutdown
also, if you are logged in and want to reboot you can just type reboot and it will (I found that out the hard way a few years ago, when a friend told me i couldnt mess up linux so i was playing..
) I think he was recompiling his kernel or something else...
