Tablet PC Installation

Hello- First Time Poster...

A couple years ago I bought 15 Norand 6622 PenKey tablets off of eBay (see http://www.currentdirections.com/har...rmec/6622.html for an overview).

Quick tech specs:
- AMD 5X86 processor
- 32MB RAM
- 1GB HD
- SoundBlaster Compatible

Each also came with a keyboard, AC and a DC charger and 2 - 3 battery packs.

My intent was to have a simple wireless tablet for surfing the Internet and to give them to my parents and siblings for use. I paid around $200 for them. They were BIOS password locked. I figured out how to unlock them and bought a factory image from the manufacturer ($25). They are Win95 and I was able to upgrade to Win98 and retain the touchscreen capability. I sold 2 on eBay for around $100 each so I broke even pretty much. These tablets are pretty rugged and one of the gents who bought one said he hooked up his GPS to it (it has a 8.4" Active Matrix Display with two PCMCIA ports) and installed it in his boat.

With the processor, Hard disk space and RAM these work pretty much for small games and sloooow Internet use.

What I'd like to do is convert these to Linux, while retaining the touchscreen capability, because I'm told the performance would increase exponentially.

I've looked at different Linux packages but don't seem to find any that would support the touchscreen. This tablet uses Microsoft Pen Extensions and something called CIC 5.0 for handwriting recognition and/or onscreen keyboard.

Can this be done? If so, how?

I missed the end of that auction. I think I tried to contact you about getteing some batteries for the unit I have, no response. Let me know if you ever want to unload, I have a niche use for them.

Hi!

I'm not sure if I get it right, but there is a wacom linux project, and wacom drivers that works fine for the touchscreen on my toshiba m200 at least.... running ubuntu for the moment.
