    It stops newbies going in and screwing stuff up I guess. I have one on my little sisters PC, there's no way she'll figure out how to reset it.

    I thought it was for security - so whats the point of password protection unless its just to protect the ignorant?
    It's just one small security measure.

    Bearing in mind that physical access means complete access, it does not do a lot in the end other than slow someone down a bit.
