Re: Install smp kernel
You can use rpm to install it

Be sure to check your Grub configuration.
It should have an entry for your SMP kernel.
If not, you'll need to edit the grub config.
If you use Synaptic or Apt-Get to install the smp kernel, the grub config should be modified by those apps.

i installed it and had to add the info in the grub.conf
i had to do a mkinitrd command since i was using a customized smp kernel rpm to get the initrd image in the /boot
after that i rebooted and is working fine.
i have one doubt , if i had downloaded the rpm from the net would the initrd image get created automatically?
could you explain in simle terms what the mkinitrd command does since i read the man page but just got only a very vague idea of what it does
thanks

Re: Install smp kernel
If you have a dual-processor system (or a hyperthreaded Pentium), the SMP kernel *should* have been installed by default.
