I've seen that "1 and 0's" before. It ended up being an incompatibility issue with LILO and something on my mainboard(BIOS, Chipsets, i dunno) You'll need to fix the MBR, and use GRUB if at all possible I don't remember seeing it as an option in RH7, so you may need to D/L the package for it
Not sure what the syntax is to fix the MBR in ef2/*nix enviro, but:
fdisk /mbr
works with a win 9x boot disk
