Instead of putting all this info the first time around, can you tell us what the problem is? Also, when putting this like this, you should use the code tags to make it look more readable.

What are you trying to get sound from? Do you get any error messages from anything? Check to see the mixer settings, the volume might be muted. Also who makes the card?

Intel makes the card and all my volume is turned up....
Ok i added these lines to my moduels.conf...
Code:# ALSA portion alias char-major-116 snd alias snd-card-0 snd-via82xx # module options should go here # OSS/Free portion alias char-major-14 soundcore alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 # card #1 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
and I get this error during startup
Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such file or directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

if u type modprobe snd-via82xx what does it return (nothing is good)
also cehck /lib/modules/yourkernleversion/kernel/ (i thinkik its drivers/sound) for teh snd card driver. i got the same sound chip and had a couple of kernels where the drievr was called via82cxxx_audio instead of snd-via82xx. apart from that i think ur modules.conf looks the same as mine.
i will check it when i get home 2nite
