Dual boot with Win2k - Remove RH9 and install new Distro

So, this is the catch: i have a Win2k in dual boot with RH9 and i would like to install a new distro, replacing RH9. What should i do?

1- Format RH9's partition and restore the MBR and then install the new distro.
    or
2- Simply install the new distro on top of RH9.

    Thanks for the help.

Option 2. Most installers will allow you to "remove existing Linux partitions" and leave your Win2k partition scheme alone.
