I cannot install SuSE Linux 10.0 on my PC

Motherboard:MSI 848P NeoV
Memory:768 RAM

Most of the packages in the SuSE Linux 10 distribution
cannot be installed. Error description:

ERROR(InstTarget:E_RpmDB_subprocess_failed)
error: unpacking of archive failed:cpio:Bad/unreadable header

Please help if you have faced the same problem.

Sounds like you have a corrupted download. Check the md5sum of the iso before burning using a program such as fsum in windwos.

Also, try burn at a slower speed e.g. 8 - 12x or slower.

I have used the official Novell SuSE Linux 10.0 distribution.
The problems remains whether using the DVD or the CDs included.

So you got the Retail version of SUSE 10? I would still say from that error message that the media is corrupted in some way. A few things come to mind,
1. Try a failsafe install (This will be in textmode, and is not that difficult)
2. Try installing on another computer

If errors still appear, ask Novell wether they will send a replacement copy for you.
