I tried to follow the instructions on Marc Herbert's site with no luck. Also, I tried to use instlux, which booted fine, but I cannot connect to the internet outside of windows to download the file and I don't know how to edit his program to point to my hard drive instead of looking for the ISO image on the internet.
I don't think the external CD Rom drive will help, I don't have a boot option to boot from any USB devices. It's a very old laptop (5 years) so the options are limited.
