You can, however, do a stage3 install that will cut down the time dramatically.
Oh...and smp = symmetric multiprocessing. If you don't have 2+ procs in the same box (or a P4 w/ HT), then don't worry about it. "Time is an illusion. Lunchtime, doubly so."
