Installing Windows after Linux
At the moment I have XP and Ubuntu and Suse all playing nicely together. I installed Suse last and it managed all the bootloader settings for me, and I can choose what I want to load using Grub. The problem is my XP installation is a real mess and needs to be reinstalled. I know when I do this it will overwrite the master boot record and I will lose Grub. How can I back up the current Grub settings and restore them after I have reinstalled XP?
Alternatively how can I just reinstall Grub or LiLo afterwards? I have a few live CD's lying around, Slax, Knoppix, Mepis, can I boot into one of these and just install Grub and copy back the old grub.conf? I'm not sure what the best approach to this is.Registered Linux user #389109

after you reinstall xp just put your suse cd in again and do a repair install. there you will have the option to reinstall grub to the MBR.
