When unpacking firefox 1.5, it went into its own folder as you said but I was looking for it to replace the default version of firefox on the system. Anyway, found a link to an rpm file in this thread.
As for the boot partition thing, it seems that Fedora did it by itself. I've found some other threads since where people have the same problem. I'll keep searching anyway
