    yo i am a noob and i thought for a good first install i should install a text editor. ne one wanna tell me where i can find out how? or get me started?

    How do you mean? Do you already have linux on your box? In that case you just have to download a binary package (RPM if you're using RedHat or some other, apt if you're using Debain or some other, I don't really know which other distros use which), and install it. The only thing you need to know is basically the name of the editor you need.
    I'd recommend emacs, but maybe that's a little bit over-ambitious if you really don't a _powerful_ text editor.
