what is an "error 24" message?

Not being able to boot, i did a partition check on my Mepis Linux. at the end it said run "fsck /dev/sda1" (without the -a,-e options) in the root terminal and when it finished, it said it was "clean".

i rebooted and 3 lines into the boot i get a "error 24" and no bootup. what the heck is this? i've googled but am not finding the answer.....
    here is my menu.lst:

    timeout 15
    color cyan/blue white/blue
    foreground ffffff
    background 0639a1
    gfxmenu /boot/grub/message

title MEPIS at sda1, kernel 2.6.15-1-586tsc
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-1-586tsc root=/dev/sda1 nomce quiet vga=791
    initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-1-586tsc

    title Windows at hda1
    rootnoverify (hd0,0)
    chainloader +1

    title MEMTEST
    kernel /boot/memtest86.bin

since i'm using a Sata drive as a totally seperate physical drive for Linux(sda1), does that line at "rootnoverify (hdo,0) have anything to do with it????? thx again.

Go here to the GRUB manual and scroll down to the "error messages reported by GRUB" section to see what error 24 is:
