I install fedora core using the live cd and my ipod becuase mty computer keeps burning bad disk and I want to make the switch to linux using fedora since ubuntu keeps crashing on me.

Constant crashes, burning bad discs.. sounds like you may have some hardware issues that need to be fixed.

Bad RAM is one thing that could cause both of the symptoms you listed. I would suggest thoroughly checking out your current system before starting to reload the OS.

http://www.memtest.org/ has a memory testing program you can use to start your testing, have a friend download the image and write it to a floppy or CD ISO for you..
