Q about using disk images for backup
I've backed up three 10 gig hard drives using the dd command. However, each one of the images is exactly the same size and none are 10 gigs:
-rw-r----- 1 root root 4294967295 May 22 05:44 home.img
-rw-r----- 1 root root 4294967295 May 21 08:57 mandrake.img
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4294967295 May 19 10:23 www.img
Am I just crossing my eyes? Is there an option to dd I should be using?
My "www" disk crashed a few weeks ago. I'm still nervous about committing to drastic measures to try to fix it (that's how I got into trouble in the first place) until I feel confident that I retreived all the data. (Partition table and MBR are corrupted.)
Thanks for any help.
Michael
