Gentoo on MacG3: "Not a valid ELF image" on boot

    Hi,
The title really says it all. I'm trying to install Gentoo on a Mac g3 (blue and white, it's not the old world beige). It has a scsi card running 3 drives, a 9gb and two 36 gb. The idea is to install to the 9gb and run it as a small office backup server.

It boots the cd just fine, but when it comes time to load a kernel from the cd, I have trouble. If I just load the default, it doesn't load right (I assume because there's no scsi support), but if I try and pass the doscsi parameter (boot cd /boot/ppc32 doscsi), it says "Not a valid ELF image". Any clue what's wrong, and if it's not me, then what workaround might work?
    Thanks!

are you sure you are using the appropriate install disc for PPC from here ? Could be an obvious question but worth a shot. If you are then I would suggest looking on the official gentoo forums under the PPC section where you are more likely to run into power pc users and gentoo.
All right, brain. You don't like me and I don't like you, but let's just do this and I can get back to killing you with beer. All New Users Read This!!! If you have a grub problem please look at GRUB MANUAL

Yes, it was the ppc version. I tried using Ubuntu instead, and it installed ok (still needed a workaround to get it to boot, but I tried same trick for Gentoo and it didn't work) Ubuntu works.
