Some older Linux distros do not play along nicely with some SATA drives. What version of Redhat AS are you trying to install?

old versions of distros dont recognize new hardware. e.g. Red Hat 9, Suse 9.3 and even 10.0
SuSe 10.0 didn't recognize my machines hardware and i installed it through manual option ( i have to load IDE driver modules manually, every time.. for SuSe to boot up). Red Hat doesn't provide Manual Installation.
check out some other distros like Fedora 5 or Ubuntu. u can try LiveCds. if that works fine, install it.
check this here. www.distrowatch.com
casperIt is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
