Well,

First off all, I am planning to turn over from Windows to Linux, tried several distrbutions before and ended up with OpenSuSE 10.1.

It looks nice and feels great, but I have a problem getting my Ati Radeon 9800 Pro working with the ATI Proprietary Linux driver.

This is what I've done:

- Clean install, got dual screen working after some tweaking (I feel like my monitors are detected the wrong way around, but hey, it works).

Ok, I know dual screen works, now it's time for me to install the ATI drivers. I started with 8.26, those where the newest then.

I installed with (the correct packages are installed):

# init 3
#cd /home/username/
# chmod +x ./ati-driver
#./ati-driver-installer-8.25.8-x86_64.run --buildpkg SuSE/SUSE101-IA32
#rpm -ivh fglrx64_6_9_0_SUSE101-8.25.8-1.x86.rpm
#aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf
#sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx

at this stage I got a black screen and sax2 returned to the command line saying it could initalize my screen.
ah well, I removed the driver and then:

#reboot

tried again with 8.25, same thing happened.
tried again with 8.24 and what do you know, I could setup sax2 with 3d acc etc. Only thing is, my monitor is stuck at 1024x786@60Hz.. When I change this, my pc hangs. Also, dual screen cannot be setup anymore.


The new driver 8.27 came out, so I thought to give it another try. Same thing happens as with 8.25 and 8.26.

Does someone know what to do?
