    Mandrake 10.1 install trouble

I currently have Windows XP and want to partition and install Mandrake 10.1. While installing, Mandrake does not recognize my Sony dvd/cdrom. I also tried to install linux 9.1, it sees my dvd/cdrom but not my Samsung hard drive. Any solutions? Thanks!

Use a distro that has a little better hardware detection and is newer. Check out Debian, its installer does excellent, and it has the largest package repository. You wanna install thunderbird? apt-get install thunderbird!

Also, make sure you don't have to insert any special boot parameter for your hardrive?

Mandrake 10.1 is to old, try Mandriva One (1 CD) that is the latest version of Mandriva (Mandrake). It's a live CD and you can also install Mandriva from it.
