i cant install linux
ive tried four major distros (live cd) and none have worked
i have tried
-ubuntu + kubuntu
-knoppix
-suse
-fedora
Any ideas?...

Give a little bit more information please. Also, you're trying to install off livecds? It'd probably be best to install an actual distro, rather than a live cd.

error message
ok with two distros (ubuntu and kubuntu) this is the message i got:

repeats this a couple of times with slightly different numbers at the start
the goes
IO error on device hdc, logical block
all i can assume from these messages is that it has had some sort of p[roblem with the hard drive from the keywords, hdc and ide
any ideas?
