    Casper-

I am mostly done with the SuSE setup. I've made some changes to the partition table and here is what the screen shows:

    1. 1* Format partition /dev/hda8 (8.7 GB) for / with reiserfs
    2. 2* Set mount point of /dev/hda1 to /windows/C
    3. 3* Set mount point of /dev/hda5 to /windows/D
    4. 4* Use /dev/hda7 as swap

1 is good. Thats pos def what I want. XP is on hda1 so that seems to make sense. Data share partition is hda5 so I think thats OK too. 4 is good too. hda7 is the swap partition. Does all this seem good to you? I'm about to hit install.

    Casper-

I couldn't wait for your response. It looks like everything was OK in my previous post cause I have SuSE up and running on the hda8 and only the hda8 partition which is what I wanted. HOORRRAAYYY!!!!

Next question. What do I install on the last partition? I'm thinking Slackware (Slax same thing?) or Gentoo just because I had never heard of either before this forum. Someone gave me another old Plll machine I will set up soon so I have plenty of room to install many more. I'm really after the install experience right now. And I've learned a ton from you, Thanks so much. Which distro do you think for my last partition?

    Hi !!

thats great ! you are master of installation now

time zone problem. when you posted post #31, it was 01:41AM here. i was sleeping

you can go for Gentoo. Ubuntu, SuSe, Mandriva, Fedora, Slax are almost same. Gentoo is different. although installation of all distros including Gentoo is similar but package installation and mangement is entirely different in Gentoo. you have to compile packages and a lot more....
    try it !
