Mandrake 9.2 internet problem

Pleas help me !

I have installed Mandrake 9.2. At the installation I have configured the internet connection. After the installation I could connect to the internet and use kmail as well.
After restarting the PC I couldn't connect to the internet.
Linux detects correctly that the connection type is ADSL, but it doesn't connect to the internet.

I have reconfigured the connection.

It sends the message when I try to connect to internet:
The system doesn't seem to be connected to the internet.
Try to reconfigure your connection.

Despite of reconfiguration it can not connect to the internet.

If I reinstall the system I can again connect to the internet, but after restarting the PC it is again impossible to connect to it.

How can I solve the problem ?

what happens when you try to connect.
do you actually ever get a connection
do you get any error message
reinstall the system, you mean linux? you modem drivers? or something else?

logged in as root <---first thing....Second created a profile for the internet connection <----took a while to figure that one out, and then through the control center did the same thing I had been doing through the setup before...Just started working...When I was first having issues was because I was manually setting up the connection...USE THE WIZARD...It worked...Now if I could just figure out how to get to the logs remotely and be able to actually attach to the box remotely (think i locked it down toooooo tight!) I would be happy..
