but when i check partition info on my HD it says:Code:/dev/hda1 /dev/hda2
are they the same? will they show up as hdc? does it matter that my partitions are named different?Code:/dev/hdc1 Linux /dev/hdc2 Linus swap

/dev/hda is the primary master device
/dev/hdc is the secondary master
basically it looks like you installed linux on a second hard drive on the primary position of the secondary IDE channel
