    new RHL8 installation

    im planning on re-installing redhat due to problems i have been having dual booting with xp.

    im reading the installation manual on where to install linux and it says:
    Code:
    /dev/hda1
/dev/hda2
    but when i check partition info on my HD it says:

    Code:
    /dev/hdc1    Linux
/dev/hdc2    Linus swap
    are they the same? will they show up as hdc? does it matter that my partitions are named different?

    /dev/hda is the primary master device

    /dev/hdc is the secondary master

    basically it looks like you installed linux on a second hard drive on the primary position of the secondary IDE channel

    (not a problem at all)
