    Wondering about the kernel compiling

Is it necessary to compile the kernel as soon as you finish the system installation?

I have heard about the kernel compiling for a long time. I also did some, but I still can not totally understand why I should do that? Just for making the adjustment of the system for yourself (even with the FC5 and coming FC6)?

someone got enough experience may give me a clear answer. Thanks!
