    well it used to be windows wouldnt boot unless it was the first sector on the HDD...

    and linux used to have to have its /boot or / if no boot was used in the first 8GB...

    but that's all better now

    I think windows only refused to boot unless it was an a primary partition actually. I don't think it has to be the first. My little sister has her /boot on the first, and win98 on the second.
