    changing the network card on linux


    i have an IBM server with onbord network card 10/100and i would like to install a new 10/100/1000 NIC what do i have to be care of in order not to meas the system up. on top of that on that server there is an installation of Oracle 8i where the company main database relay on.

    Just install the nic in the server then boot it up. Then just compile the module for the nic and load the module and it should be working.

    Just getting the card into the server is pretty unlikely to hurt. Then you can sit and experiment with drivers while keeping your Oracle DB running.
