new DVD burner - how do I get it recognized?
Hello
I just got a new "EMPREX" CD/DVD + - burner/reader. It's a bit of an off-brand, but my Windows PC reads it no problem and allowed me to install the latest drivers.
When I put it in my RedHat FC1 box, I can read CDs with it, but it does not appear to be recognized as a DVD drive. I'm not really sure what to do. Kudzu didn't launch on boot, and I cannot find a hardware configuration utility in redhat.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Just because it doesnot refer to the drive specificaly as a dvd drive dont mean it wont work as one. Use k3b or xcdroast to burn a test dvd with it (they should also detect the drive for what it is)

I was able to detect the drive as a DVD drive using XCDroast. thanks!
I also noticed that XCDRoast - as well as a number of other DVd burning front ends - all rely on this "prodvd" technology that is guarded by its developer like a bear over a beehive. Apparently, I have to renew a "key" every 6 months in order to use it. What happened to open source and free use?
Is it common for developers to have such strong attitudes? He certainly is not making any friends this way.
thanks again,
