How would i get surround sound to work in linux? i have a 4.1 setup and i have the c-media chip. help is appreciated thanks....

    Surround sound in redhat 8?


    How would i get surround sound to work in linux? i have a 4.1 setup and i have the c-media chip.

    I don't think many sound card drivers have support for surround sound yet. What is it that you intend to use it for? I haven't heard of any applications that use surround sound.

    I don't think any kind of music uses surround sound. Surround sound in movies is usually implemented outside of software, since it allows for greater detail and more channels. I haven't heard of the C-media chip before, but doesn't it have SPDIF output?

    i think/do believe that the ac`97 (and no, thats not a soundcard ) codec is supposed to give you 3d sound. might be worth cheking out?

    the right DVD program might use surround sound, but I don't think they have any that support it (there is no real surround sound API in linux).
    I respectfully decline the invitation to join your delusion.
