External hard drive install
I have an IBM i1400 laptop and am using an external 60 gig hard drive. This drive is where I want to install RedHat 6.1. I purchased the book titled Teach Yourself Linux, but the book does not address this issue.

How is this drive connected to your laptop? Are you aware that RedHat 6.1 is eons old?

external drive install
The external drive is connected by USB. I know that redhat 6.1 is old but it came with the book teach yourself linux. I do have red hat 8.0, mandrake, and Suse 7.3

Actually, I'm not sure that RedHat 6.1 has USB support at all.

no i think is has the 2.2 kernel, wich doesnt support usb.
